 Cira takes top IT spot at FEMA

Former executive director of infrastructure operations for the Homeland Security Department CIOs office Tony Cira, DHS announced recently, has moved to the top IT job at the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

While in the departments central CIO office, Cira managed the day-to-day operations of WANs supporting both classified and unclassified communications. Ciras headquarters job included responsibilities for running DHS global e-mail system, a 125,000-square-foot data center and a LAN that connected the departments executive staff.

Cira also planned and created DHS continuity-of-operations activities.

Cira formerly was vice president of programs and operations for AT&T Corp. in Washington. Earlier in his career, he worked for the Defense Information Systems Agency and the Air Force.

Cira joined FEMA last month. He succeeded Jeanne Etzel, who served as the agencys acting CIO following former CIO Barry Wests move in May to the top IT job at the Commerce Department.
