Freeman to leave Patent Office

By Michael Hardy

David Freeland, who has been chief information officer at the Patent and Trademark Office since 2005, has announced his plans to leave the agency.

An agency spokeswoman said Deputy CIO Deborah Diaz will serve as acting CIO until the agency hires someone for the position. Freeland said in a letter to colleagues that he will step down "in a few weeks," but did not specify a date.

Freeland served as deputy commissioner for management information systems at the Texas Human Services Department before becoming PTO CIO.

Michael Hardy writes for Federal Computer Week, an 1105 Government Information Group publication.
